New podcast to share personal stories of widowhood

To mark International Widows Day on 23 June, First Light Widowed Support is proud to launch a powerful new podcast, The Widow Diaries — a heartfelt and honest exploration of life after losing a partner, especially at a younger age.

Hosted by journalist and young widow Caroline Winter, The Widow Diaries brings deeply personal conversations to the forefront, shining a light on the often invisible world of grief. Each episode shares intimate, raw, and courageous stories from those navigating widowhood — in all its pain, complexity, and unexpected beauty.

“Stories, shared experiences, and connection are everything to me — both in my professional and personal life,” says host and producer Caroline Winter.

“Being able to use my skills as a journalist and my lived experience as a widow to give others a safe space to share their stories is a huge gift. Producing this podcast isn’t a donation — it’s a privilege.”

Created by First Light Widowed Support, The Widow Diaries is designed to support, inform, and connect people who have lost their partner — particularly at a younger age — and to foster greater understanding for those around them.

“Having an organisation like First Light would have meant everything to me when I lost my husband Richard in 2013,” Caroline says.

“Just knowing I wasn’t alone, that others were walking this path too — some a few steps ahead, some a few behind — would’ve brought comfort during the hardest time in my life.”

With warmth, wisdom, and humour, The Widow Diaries provides a platform where grief and love coexist — and where no story is the same, but every story matters.

“The intimacy of audio lends itself to this topic so well,” Caroline says. “It brings to life the rawness of widowhood in all its colours. I’m so proud of the brave people who’ve told their stories, each filled with wisdom, sadness, humour and heart. There’s something in this podcast for every widow — and for anyone who wants to better support someone through grief.”

The series will be available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeartRadio and Amazon Music, with the season trailer now available.

Listeners are encouraged to follow or subscribe so they don’t miss an episode — and to share the show with others who may benefit from its messages of connection, courage, and hope.
