This Policy (Policy) is a policy of First Light Widowed Support Ltd ABN 25 456 094 737 (First Light), which is a company limited by guarantee that is governed by a Board established under its constitution (Constitution).
First Light is committed to protecting your privacy. Establishing a trusting relationship with our users is central to our work practices.
2. Purpose
The policy is intended to:
- Provide a framework for First Light in dealing with privacy considerations.
- Explain how First Light collects and handles your personal information.
3. Definitions
Privacy Legislation means, as applicable, the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth, Australia) or supplements, Australian state or territory privacy laws, or any legislation that replaces those laws.
Personal information has the same meaning as in the Privacy Legislation
4. Collection of personal information
First Light collects personal information when it is reasonably necessary for activities in which you are seeking to be involved.
The type of information we collect and hold, depends on the nature of your involvement with us.
We will only collect your personal information by lawful and fair means, including by phone, letter, email, forms on our website or through websites we trust.
We may collect information that personally identifies individuals if required, including (but not limited to) name, email address, address, phone number, date of birth, gender, age, and information regarding how and why you are interested in First Light’s services, including your personal circumstances and details regarding your partners death.
You are not required to provide the personal information and/or sensitive information we request. However, if you choose not to provide this information, we may be unable to provide access to the program or service sought.
5. Use and disclosure of personal information
We use your personal information for a range of purposes, including:
- providing you with our services;
- improving our services through quality-improvement activities;
- providing you with information, news, offers and surveys;
- helping you to access the most appropriate information and tools associated with our websites;
- processing payments, including donations;
- communicating important service-related announcements, including changes to our services;
- providing you with information about our fundraising and charitable activities;
- answering enquiries and resolving complaints;

If you would like access to the personal information that First Light holds about you, you may request this by emailing mail@firstlight.org.au. We will respond to your request within a reasonable period and within any timeframe specified by the Privacy Legislation.
Prior to allowing access to your personal information, we may ask you to take steps to verify your identity.
We will allow you to access your personal information unless there is a sound reason not to, in which case you will provide you with notice setting out our reasons.
